Portugal among most liberal countries in world

Portugal is among the 15 most liberal countries in the world according to a guide created by MoveHub  a website offering advice to people considering moving abroad.

Placed 12th ahead of countries like France and USA, Portugal is highlighted for its positive performance in terms of environmental quality, access to education and tolerance compared to countries with a similar GDP per capita.

The list is topped by Iceland, which despite its population of just over 330,000 people is the “closest to achieving gender equality with the smallest gender pay gap in the world”.

“In addition to this, approximately 85% of its energy comes from renewable sources.”

Completing the top-10 are Finland, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Slovenia, Switzerland, Denmark, Ireland and the UK.

The guide was created to recommend the most liberal countries to move to “following the election of Donald Trump in the USA as well as the result of the Brexit referendum”.

It uses data from the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2016, the 2016 Social Progress Index report and Yale’s Environmental Performance Index 2016.

These sources combined “provide insight into countries’ gender equality, the rights of minorities, personal safety and environmental factors such as soil, air and water quality”.
